About the index

This index includes the main pages, and the last 20 blog entries.

One of the problems with web indexing, or indexing of any content that changes often, is keeping it up to date. There are a variety of tools and methods available for large sites, few for small sites. This index is created with SiteMap by Loghound Software. It is a modified site map, and will update automatically when content is added to this site, as long as each page is categorized. But you should note that the entries under the categories are not alphabetized.

Large sites and rapidly changing sites should embed keywords and metadata, and expose portions of those data sets to a user in a broad way if using an index-like view, or by making sure search is tuned to the metadata for better results. A taxonomy would allow related subjects to appear in search results with a "You may also be interested in..." label.

Small less active sites can use a product like HTMLIndexer to embed indexing metadata. Maintaining the index can be very time-consuming for small organizations. Indexing to main pages, menu pages, or portals is often the best use of indexing time.

So yes, I know the subheads are out of order, but for ease of update, I'm willing to live with it.
